My job role is: Healthcare Provider
I am interested in Centering because: The centering model and facilitative leadership provide families with the support, education & assessments they need to become partners in their own care.

I noticed that there was some promising research on centering and GDM's on the research board. Is anyone here involved with centering groups where all the moms have gestational diabetes? Thanks, Pam Lemke CNM, MS Kaiser San Jose Medical Center

Hi Pam, I worked with a site that is no longer doing OB. Their Centering was with Woman who transferred in with an elevated 3 hour GTT. So the first group started at about 28-30 weeks and all the moms had GDM. They ran a series of 6 groups meeting bi weekly till 38-40 weeks and it worked very well. They adapted the group outlines to a six group series.
Many people actually keep their moms who convert in the second trimester in the original group. as soon as the labs are back, they send them to Hi-risk care for DM teaching and monitors etc. They return to group but see the hi-risk providers in the weeks between groups. As long as their sugars are stable, they stay in group as well - sort of a hybred model.
I hope that this helps a little Margie

We'll likely be scheduling a Circle Up on GDM groups in November, stay tuned!
