Hello All, My workplace is in the process of starting Centering. We anticipate our first groups will start in October. We work in a large health care system so this process has taken a lot of time and effort to change the model of care. I am the main provider moving this model forward. This is taking a great deal of my time (about 8 hrs/week). We do have a LSW who is acting in the role of Centering Coordinator. However, I am still tasked with networking with community organizations, leading meetings and events related to this, creating a research study for our project, sitting on a local infant mortality task force, etc. As I am the only provider doing these tasks I feel that I need to create a new job description and/or title that accurately reflects my additional responsibilities. I have sample job descriptions for Centering Coordinator. However, my role is slightly different. I will not be setting up the room, getting supplies, scheduling patients. Is anyone else in this position? If so do you have a certain title that reflects your additional duties or a formal job description? Thank you.

Hi nparish, as you stated in your post title, Centering Director or Centering Program Director is used by a number of practices for the individual charged with broad oversight of the Centering program. Internally at CHI we usually refer to that person as the Centering Champion, but given the scope of activities you have just laid out perhaps Super Hero would be more appropriate

Hi Nicole, I hope some other Centering Directors join the discussion soon! Feel free to also discuss this with your CHI Consultant Margie, she may be able to help brainstorm a plan for transitioning some of your duties. There may be some other Steering Committee or staff members who would welcome greater engagement and responsibility and take on some of the extra work you are doing. Have you scheduled your Kickoff Day yet? We're very excited for Mercy and all the good Centering energy in Ohio right now!

Hi Beth, In our Start Up materials we use this description for the Coordinator: Centering Coordinator This position needs released administrative time to carry out the responsibilities and help assure the success of the implementation. The coordinator should be a front line staff person such as a nurse who has good organizational and communication skills. They will work with the clinic manager and providers to set agendas and establish work plans. Responsibilities Convene the Steering Committee for regular meetings, usually every two weeks for the first few months Execute decisions of the Committee Oversee the logistics for implementation of the groups (ordering supplies, scheduling space, setting up for group and arranging for snacks) Oversee basic evaluation of the groups, collecting and collating patient evaluations (CenteringCounts) Work with the CHI site consultant on challenges Here is a sample job description: Centering Coordinator Job Description Sample.doc (34 KB) Hope some of this will help with your part-time posting!
