At clinics where there are Centering and non-Centering providers, what determines which provider a new client sees?
Are all clients invited to attend Centering, meaning those seeing a non-Centering provider have opted out of Centering? Or are only some clients - perhaps those who see a Centering provider for their initial appointment - invited to attend Centering?
How does this work at your practice? Thanks for any info!

I work at a: Healthcare Facility
My job role is: Staff
I am interested in Centering because: As a military spouse myself, I can see the HUGE benefit Centering has to our expectant moms who are often many miles from home with no friends or family nearby! I feel like the Centering model is a perfect fit for our environment!

We are an "Opt in" clinic. All "low risk" moms are eligible to sign up, but we only have the staff to start one group a month, so if it's full, they have to go to routine care. The provider in our clinic who makes the schedules helps me decide who will start which group.

I am interested in Centering because: The centering model and facilitative leadership provide families with the support, education & assessments they need to become partners in their own care.

We have an opt-in program as well. Our patients are contacted via phone to set up their first visit. During the call nutrition, prenatal vitamin, safe travel, and pregnancy danger signs and how to contact us are briefly reviewed, and patients are scheduled for their first visit with a clinician at 7-8 weeks. The first visit is 30 minutes and they are given a welcome packet that includes information on our centering program. After the appointment with the clinician, they meet with an MA acting in the role of "concierge" who orders their labs and genetic tests and scheduled them for a 12-week group visit.
Our 12-week group visit happens in our centering room and is conducted informally and in a circle by one of our centering facilitators. A brief review of prenatal care, online resources and classes are reviewed using our AV equipment, and then we show a 3-minute youtube video on our program. This takes about 20 minutes. Then we do brief belly checks/bedside ultrasounds in the assessment space and patients are booked for their 16-week appointment based on which care option they prefer.
W have a large program and enroll about 33% of our moms (we have approximately 200-220 births per month). We can accommodate most families desiring centering care as we offer groups every day of the week except Sunday.
So in a nutshell- patients are booked with their empaneled or preferred appt. for their first visit and a centering facilitator for the 12week visit. Who they see for the remainder of their care depends on which option they choose.
