I was hoping to get some feedback as to what other facilities are doing for their reunion visit. Are centers using this time for postpartum visits or just a reunion? Do patients still get vitals/weight and have mat time?

I am interested in Centering because: I feel it is the best way to get pregnancy care! Especially seeing how teens are with the model!

For us it depends on the group, but typically we schedule the reunion during clinic down time and it is not an appointment. We give out incentives that they've earned during their time in Centering, and have a little party so our girls can see each other with the babies... it's usually 6-8 weeks post session 10.

I leave it up to the group if they want a reunion. For us, some groups just bond better than others, so usually I throw the idea out there at our session 10 baby shower if they want to come back, see everyone's babies, etc. It is just social during a non-centering time. We just had one a few days before Christmas & brought Santa in to have pictures with the babies. So much fun!! Post partum visits are not a part of our centering groups/reunions since they involve a more private examiniation. Kim

Thank you for the feedback. This is good to know. We had our first reunion no 12/30/15 and it was held as a celebration/welcome baby reunion. Everyone seemed pleased and this particular group is still in contact with each other.

Aloha, Thank you everyone for sharing! We also use session #11/reunion as a mostly social gathering. For productivity we take vitals and do an EPDS, make sure they have all necessary paperwork done, we let everyone share their experiences and ask questions, if the lactation consultant is available she stops by. Moms that make the effort to come in and reconnect (most of them) are giddy and excited to see each other and each other's babies; it is difficult to make sure they all do the EPDS and their vital signs - sooo distracted. And OF COURSE we do a traditional Centering baby circle photo, which is always the highlight! We heart Centering!

I am interested in Centering because: I have done Centering at my public health clinics since 1999. I am also a consultant for CHI.

Hi I'll weigh in here too. I find my groups love their reunions! We use it as a time mostly for socializing and sharing stories about births and parenting. I want to put in a plug for doing postpartum visits in Centering sessions (we don't do them at the reunion, since it's more of a party): when some of us in my practice wanted to start doing this, we met some resistance from providers who thought it would be too challenging. Now we all love it - it's really increased the number of women who come back with their babies if they deliver before the last session, it spares them having to wait for a 15 minute visit in our clinic with their early postpartum selves and their little babies, and they have so much to add - in vivo group discussion leaders for those last sessions conversations about childbirth, postpartum, early parenting, everything! We don't routinely do a 2-4 week postpartum physical exam that's anything more than an abdominal check - we only do it if a woman reports a problem, and in that case do it after group (it's usually quick).

I am interested in Centering because: The centering model and facilitative leadership provide families with the support, education & assessments they need to become partners in their own care.

If a centering mom gives birth within 4-6 weeks of our scheduled teunion, we incorporate her postpartum visit into thever union time, and our moms seem to appreciate it.
We usually start with hugs and circle up to share a bit, let everyone know well need their vitals and weight at some point and then we socialize, eat, take photos, and I'll individually step out with the few individuals that need a more private exam, one at a time, while the larger group continues to mingle and celebrate.
If the delivery did not happen in that time frame, was complicated, or if mom is planning an IUD/implants, she is scheduled for a separate postpartum visit. I typically end up seeing 2-4 moms the second hour. The moms seem to appreciate it.

We schedule the Centering reunion in advance 6 weeks after the last mama's due date. It is a potluck and it is scheduled for two hours. It is strictly social. Typically the moms all take time sharing their birth stories. They eat and share info and ask questions. We hold babies and the last 15-20 minutes we take pictures.

We do wt bp and hgb, if mom needs a ppv we schedule an exam. We also discuss their deliveries and revisit pp depression, birth control and newborn care. We still serve a snack. We also give a gift to baby which consists of a laundry basket full of baby care items such as diapers, wipes, quilts, thermometer, baby toy, a book and a few other items. We take pictures of babies. They seem to enjoy this reunion and don't want to leave.

I am interested in Centering because: I want to make a difference in someones life for the better and help educate them about the better way of healthcare. I am passionate about what I do with our Centering Program at Kaiser Permanente. I love the lifelong friendships that I build while going thru the journey of pregnancy for all of my patients. I love the personal care that patients receive and I love to keep our groups fun and current. Coming up on being accredited for a year in Jan 2018 and we have grown so much. Already starting 2 groups a month starting Dec 2017, beat our goal to start 2 by a month. #MicDrop

"I also bought advice cards for the parents to be, to be filled out by the parents who come to the reunion. Because after we have our reunion, we start a brand new group and we hand these advice cards out for the new parents to be and let them know that this is advice from our past Centering group. It is really fun to see some of the things they say. But so honest and so true. They love them."
What a sweet idea!!

I also like the advice cards. We have them write cards to new moms and tell them why they liked CP and I put them in a notebook for them to see at there ob screening appt. where they first hear about CP. We also use some on a bulletin board where all of our ob patients can see them.
