Our practice is thinking of offering an evening (4:30-6:30) session. Does anyone have any experience with evening sessions? Our main concerns are the lab not being open after 5 for the 1 hour GTTs and our sonographers won't be there in the case of a provider not being able to ascertain fetal heart tones. Also, what hours does the co-facilitator work to offset staying after normal clinic hours. Thanks in advance!

We did evening hours with great success. This is called "consumer friendly hours" and seems to be a critical need at this moment of patient-centered care which is actually, Centering. In response to your particular questions, labs can be written on the day/evening group and participants can complete this task at their convenience or on another day. As far as staff is concerned, our site gave three hours (total) which was comprised of two hour centering group care and 30 minutes before and after to prep, clean up and chart. We compensated a late arrival time to the facilitators of three equal hours....so if the normal start time was 8:30am, then they arrived at 11:30 am which everyone appreciated to so the monday-friday tasks that normally get done on weekends. Please feel free to contact concerning any other questions about evening hours. Gailena.
PS, we did 5-7PM

We have done a 4:30 to 5:30 class and it was convenient for those mothers who had to get their older school age children settled before they came to sessions.

We started evening groups this month. We run group from 4:30pm-6:30pm and it works out great for patients. Our office is open until 5:30pm. We have had the patients do any scheduling that was needed for future ultrasounds or appointments during mat time after they had their time with the provider. Our ultrasound tech is also here until 5:30 and this would be sufficient if we needed her if FHT's could not be found by doppler. Our providers also have access to the ultrasound machine if the tech is not here. As far as the labs, we have our patients go to the lab at their convenience for their 28wk labs.
At our facility we have decided to work 12 hours on the day of our evening group (which is really 11 working hours for us as we have a 1 hr lunch). Then we will get comp time (3 hours) later in that week. I personally prefer afternoon comp time and possibly a Friday. This is what is working for us at this time.
