Do you have a Centering space that you're particularly proud of? Share a photo and tell us about it.

I am interested in Centering because: I love seeing villages come together. I love seeing new parents uplift each other and continue to do so beyond the immediate postpartum time.

We have two locations and this is our north location. I had just moved the snacks closer to the circle and it actually completed the circle since this group was a little smaller. We have the whiteboard with the curriculum on it screening the corner where one mat assessment area is located. We have the guidelines posted. I took this picture and behind me is another mat assessment area.

Not particularly proud of our space now, but wondering if anyone can share key points for Centering Parenting space set up should I have the opportunity to have input into a new space design. Some things I am trying to consider already are:
-creating semi-private exam area(s) - need space for mom/baby self assessments including baby scale, as well as a space for provider exams. may not have enough space to have the exam areas stay as such during visit (i.e. may need to fold up the table to allow for more sitting space, etc). does Centering have an advised square footage for Parenting groups? -address childproofing aspects - cabinets/drawers, outlet locations, AV equipment wires/locations, trash containers -how much space to dedicate to storage of blankets/toys/print materials/activity materials/etc for ourselves as well as how much space for baby gear parents need to bring -decoration ideas (space would be used for other group visits as well, possibly by other providers such as our mental health counselors too) -seating types
thanks!

Heidi So sorry you could not make it to the NC Consortium mtg last week- we talked about ideal space. I can talk this week if you can give me a couple of options. At the basic workshops we discuss this somewhat also and there is one coming up next month right there in Asheville which is great for you! Give me a call-Kathy Trotter

This is the room we are so very proud of at the Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune! Our space can hold up to 28 comfortably and has one wall of large windows(they are tinted for privacy). The large cabinet holds our Centering educational supplies and the other small cabinet on the wall is actually a white board. Notice our theme? Everything has a circle!

Hi Everyone - All the of these group spaces are lovely! Thank you for sharing! We have received several questions recently about preferred cot/massage tables/bed for the belly checks. If you have a health assessment area with a cot/massage table/ bed that you love, can you share a photo and let us know where you found that cot/massage table/bed?
Thank you all!

I am interested in Centering because: I work closely with the Maternity Clients in our clinic and I believe that Centering is one of the best ways to receive information for mothers, and fathers, in a group environment.

I am interested in Centering because: As a military spouse myself, I can see the HUGE benefit Centering has to our expectant moms who are often many miles from home with no friends or family nearby! I feel like the Centering model is a perfect fit for our environment!

I love the W I N N C E N T E R I N G flags! And how smart to have the assessment chair/table face away, I've not seen that before. Thanks for sharing!

I am interested in Centering because: I want to make a difference in someones life for the better and help educate them about the better way of healthcare. I am passionate about what I do with our Centering Program at Kaiser Permanente. I love the lifelong friendships that I build while going thru the journey of pregnancy for all of my patients. I love the personal care that patients receive and I love to keep our groups fun and current. Coming up on being accredited for a year in Jan 2018 and we have grown so much. Already starting 2 groups a month starting Dec 2017, beat our goal to start 2 by a month. #MicDrop

Should have posted these a long time ago. This is Casa de Amigos Harris Health Centering, 1809 N. Main, Houston, TX. We started Centering November 2005, and at one time had two different spaces in different buildings. We had no control over either one and had to book them carefully with the two organizations--City of Houston and Harris Health. Finally, we got this dedicated space in May 2010, because of going to our EMR, Epic. This was once the HIM room and was filled with chart racks. Thanks to our steering committee, excellent nurse manager, Yolanda Vigil, and City of Houston manager, Lucy Borjas, we got this space. The Circle. How we do table paper on massage table Entry, Staff Facilitator, Assessment area behind trees, VS area Name-tag Ribbons made by Margaret Hudgins, CNM
Black lateral file cabinets are used for storage and organized according to session. They were found is some storage area for discarded furniture in Harris Health.
