I am interested in Centering because: I believe that helping women become stronger mothers is hugely beneficial to the woman, her child, the rest of her family, and ultimately our entire society.

Hi everyone. My name is Sally. I am a registered nurse. I worked for a year on a labor and delivery unit and before that I worked at an OB-GYN clinic scheduling patients. I was introduced to Centering Pregnancy at the clinic. Since then, I've done more and more research on early childhood development, adverse childhood events, and the correlation between positive parenting and resiliency. Everything I learn just piles more and more evidence onto the incredible importance of the earliest childhood years. I believe that pregnancy can be a key time to address the mental and emotional health of parents, particularly those who might be at higher risk of adverse outcomes.
I joined this group because I'm at a crossroads right now. I recently moved to Texas and I'm trying to figure out where to go with my career. I love labor and delivery, but I miss having more time with a woman throughout her pregnancy. I'm also deeply concerned with the overall health of a community, not just a handful of patients, who, especially if they're seeking midwifery care in the US, are likely to be quite affluent. I'm still considering going into midwifery or perhaps public health. When I imagine what I would most love to do to promote maternal and children's health, the picture in my head looks a lot like Centering Pregnancy combined with the Nurse Family Partnership.

Hello all, I am a fairly new (2 years) Midwife from Tallahassee, Fl. I have participated in CP antenatal programs both as a student and in my practice. I am Cuban American, and feel dedicated to helping many of our non-English speaking Hispanic mothers and families. I am currently working in a rural and underserved community setting. We are just starting CP sessions in our clinic and I will be taking some training over the coming month. I am excited to implement this wonderful program at my new place of employment and look forward to healthy birth outcomes as a result. Thank you for having me. Michele
