Welcome Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Centering Coordinators, Staff Facilitators, Providers, and all who are Centering within a Military establishments!
I am excited to announce and share our new board for all things Centering in the Military!
My name is Heidi Walker and I am currently the Centering Coordinator at the Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune located in lovely Coastal North Carolina. I was introduced to Centering in 2012 by a wonderful Navy Midwife CDR Ginny Hazlett at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. CDR(ret.) Kirsten Harvison requested my assistance with developing the already established Centering program here at then NHCL in 2014 and I have been loving every minute of it since! Some of you may know me, have heard of me (oh dear..), or I have conducted a facilitator training at your MTF(Navy talk...Military Treatment Facility). Our program at NMCCL has been very successful and I would like this for all of our military sites! Centering has been a wonderful resource for our patient population here at Camp Lejeune and our patients LOVE it! Some even come back for there 2nd and 3rd pregnancies.
Together we can grow the CenteringPregnancy programs throughout the Department of Defense so that ALL of our military families can benefit! So...post your questions, concerns, and ideas! Let's get this circle started!

I work at a: Healthcare Facility
My job role is: Staff
I am interested in Centering because: As a military spouse myself, I can see the HUGE benefit Centering has to our expectant moms who are often many miles from home with no friends or family nearby! I feel like the Centering model is a perfect fit for our environment!

Hi Heidi! I'm Starr. I'm the Centering Coordinator at Winn Army Community Hospital at Ft Stewart, GA. I was approached by our department Chief when we first got the Op Order for Centering to see if it was something I would be interested in helping her with and I just sort of ran with it! I think Centering is a fantastic idea for military families being that we are many miles from our own families and friends during this exciting, stressful and emotional time. I just love Centering and our patients have loved it too! Centering has really thrived at Winn over the last year and I am excited to see it succeed even more in the future!!

Hi Starr! Thank you for your post! I too think Centering is a wonderful experience and resource for our military families. Centering provides these families especially with a sense of community which is often a challenge when you move every two or three years. Be sure to share any information that you feel would be helpful to others!
Happy Centering!

Hello!
I am an active duty pediatrician at Fort Campbell and I am interested in the Centering Parenting program for well baby visits. Does anyone know if any MTF is currently doing the Parenting side of centering?

Hello! I am an active duty pediatrician at Fort Campbell and I am interested in the Centering Parenting program for well baby visits. Does anyone know if any MTF is currently doing the Parenting side of centering? Suzanne Hi Suzanne! I believe Irwin Army Community Hospital (IACH) - Fort Riley, KS will be our first MTF to start CenteringParenting soon, I hope they will chime in! @daphnechi may have more details to share... I hope we can link you to a training opportunity and get you started seeing your new babies in group soon.

Does anyone know if any MTF is currently doing the Parenting side of centering? Suzanne Hi Suzanne! I'd love if you reached out to me via email (my email address is in my profile). I am the Practice Services Manager for the majority of MTFs that offer Centering, and my understanding is that several are having conversations but none have begun to implement yet. There are one or two people I can connect you with though who may be pretty close. Let's talk!

Is there still a Facebook page for Centering in the Military? I am the Centering Coordinator for LRMC and would like to be added if it still exists! Thank you!
