In the article Redesigning Prenatal Care through CenteringPregnancy (2004, Rising et al, Journal of Midwifery and Women's Health), there is a table comparing the Institute of Medicine's 10 Rules for health care redesign with the Essential Elements of Centering. Recently, the Institute of Healthcare Improvement issued new rules for "radical" redesign. They also align with Centering - I especially love the last one in this list - "Create joy in work". Change the balance of power Standardize what makes sense Customize to the individual Collaborate/cooperate Eliminate walls Assume abundance Return the money Make it easy Move knowledge, not people Create well being Create joy in work

I am interested in Centering because: I have seen first hand the positive impact it has on families and physicians.
