Virginia Garcia program beats national average in newborn health outcomesA nationally recognized prenatal group at Cornelius-based Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center (VGMHC) has added more achievements to its already impressive list of accomplishments. CenteringPregnancy, offered at the Virginia Garcia Hillsboro Clinic since 2010, is a groundbreaking model of group-based prenatal care that integrates health assessment, education and group support into a unified program. For participants in the CenteringPregnancy groups, the rate of preterm deliveries was 7.3 percent, while the U.S. national rate is 9.6 percent and the statewide rate in Oregon is 7.7 percent.
