NC Centering Consortium Meeting Minutes

Highlights/Updates
-We practiced the “3 Breaths” Mindfulness technique, and learned more about where we each reside by making a human map of the state as led by Amy MacDonald. The new facilitators guide and leader kit were presented and discussed.
-The state continues to see growth in both number and size of our Centering programs
-Several sites are expanding the model to address other conditions, i.e. diabetes, tobacco cessation, healthy lifestyles, and chronic pain
-At least two sites have made CenteringPregnancy the standard of care for their patients.
-Duke Family Medicine has made participation in and facilitation of Centering Pregnancy group part of their residency program.
-At least one group attended to learn more about CenteringPregnancy and hopes to obtain funding.
-There was discussion about ED&I approaches and Centering
-We were led by Amanda Murphy from MAHEC in a discussion about group activities (posted separately on Connects). She also shared their website and video which can be found on the MAHEC OBGYN website.

CHI: Discussed accreditation terminology, upcoming circle ups, upcoming certification program for facilitators. CenteringConnects and how to increase participation by setting notifications and bookmarks, CHI expansion/hiring/grants in process, CME for training effort underway
We discussed consortia leadership becoming a committee approach and encouraged involvement.
General Announcements
-Guilford County Health Department will be hosting a Basic Facilitation Workshop May 3+4th
-March of Dimes is hosting an event on May 3rd with the help of Wake AHEC : Continuing Strides: March of Dimes Preconception Health's Journey to a Healthier North Carolina
-Wake Forest will host a Group Medical Visit Collaborative (led by Carmen Strickland and colleagues) which will be a discussion about group visit models including Centering on May 23rd- others welcome to attend if desired
-Postpartum Support International is hosting a training on April 19-20th
-Medicaid Reform update from Kelly Garrison, Network Director at Northwest Community Care Network.
-Upcoming Circle Ups involving NC sites:
-4/25 Centering in Residency Programs (Amy MacDonald)
-6/13 Developing & Sustaning volunteer programs in your community (Amy MacDonald)
-Kathy Trotter may have one in May, TBA
-Also showed where can access current and past webinars online
Next Meeting: TBD for October in Asheville, NC- discussed opening it to a regional meeting and having a focused discussion on research- idea well received and plans are in process
