Does anyone have OB residents participating in their Centering Pregnancy groups?
We have a provider who is interested in offering Centering but she is our main resident preceptor. Previously she was told that residents can't help with centering unless they also receive the facilitation training. However, this is not economically feasible for our organization. Given that a majority of her responsibilities involve precepting she has opted out of centering. Can someone confirm if this it is accurate that residents can't participate in a CP group unless they also receive facilitation training?
Thanks,
Taylor

Hi Taylor, Thanks so much for asking! While we strongly encourage that all facilitators participating in group be CHI-trained, we realize that having residents go through the two day CHI basic facilitation workshop is often not possible and encourage your staff to orient them as best you can so that they can participate in group. The Facilitator's Guide and resources in the web portal will help, and watching Centering videos can help bring the concept to life. This recorded Circle Up webinar may be interesting as well: Circle Up Webinar: Involving Medical Students & Residents into Your Centering PracticeIf you are interested in developing the capacity to train in-house (which is especially helpful at residency practices!) there is more info on our certification process here. I hope some others chime in and share how they prepare their residents or students to participate in group sessions!

We have residents follow our Providers that do CenteringPregnacy during clinic. After they have follow several times and want to do a Centering group on their own, they have to ask the the faculties permission. Once they get the OK, we setup a group with them and they can shadow again the provider several more time if needed before their group starts. Our Co-Facilitator reviews after the session and plans for the next one with the resident. We have had great success with this.

I am interested in Centering because: The centering model and facilitative leadership provide families with the support, education & assessments they need to become partners in their own care.
