I am curious about whether any of you are currently sitting in on groups in order to observe how well co-facilitators are adhering to the Centering model. I know that retention suffers when facilitators stray from the model. I am planning to do this as a QI strategy and am wondering if anyone has tips. Or maybe a suggestion of how to track/evaluate?

Are you already using the Facilitator Process Evaluations? This is a good starting point. I know MaineGeneral recently held an all-facilitators meeting to discuss challenges, model fidelity, etc.

I am interested in Centering because: I love seeing villages come together. I love seeing new parents uplift each other and continue to do so beyond the immediate postpartum time.

I have audited some groups recently, using the 13 essential elements evaluation sheet as a guideline. I do participate during the group, though, since I am of the understanding that anyone who sits within the group is an equal participant.
I would love other ideas and tips from places on how they track and train (re-train) facilitators when they stray from facilitation and head more towards didatic!

Using the Essential Elements Evaluations can be helpful, too. Have each facilitator fill one out and then come together to review and discuss how everyone scored themselves. This may identify some areas to focus on.

I am interested in Centering because: I feel it is the best way to get pregnancy care! Especially seeing how teens are with the model!

I have a few groups that I facilitate as the co-facilitator... I do a group with both providers... I think with that kind of hands on it keeps everyone on track and inline.. we also have an outline for each session... I set up for all sessions and put the activities out as well as the guideline that the faciltators use in every group... now flexibility is key, but for the most part we are sticking to our guideline and I also have them fill out the facilitator process evaluation at the end of each session... I find these extremely important...

I am planning to attend a group at each of our sites to audit for model fidelity. I check to see if they use the process evaluations and I also use the essential elements evaluation as a checklist of what to look for. I also look to see how well the facilitators apply the facilitation skills listed in the implementation guide.
