Calendar events are simply posts that you link to a calendar date.
Easiest Option
Create a new thread for your event in the appropriate forum
While still in the edit screen, click the Add Event button and enter your event dates
Save your new thread
To add an existing thread to the calendar just edit it and click the Add Event button. You must be the original author to edit a thread.
Option 2
Open the Calendar
Click on the date you would like to add the event
In the popup window select the forum you want to create your thread in
Click Create Event button, this opens the edit window for a new thread
Create your thread and save
