The CenteringCounts development team is happy to answer your questions! What are you wondering about the online version? - Yes, you will be able to upload your current CenteringCounts Excel data into the online system!
- If you are also submitting data to the March of Dimes via EpiCenter, CenteringCounts online will provide you with the data you need in the format you need to enter it into EpiCenter.
- As usual, if you already are tracking Centering group data and outcomes using another system, you do not need to also do so in CenteringCounts. You will just use CenteringCounts to evaluate process measures like model fidelity and administrative support.
- You will be able to track patient demographics and risk factors, and many more health indicators!
- CenteringParenting will be included!
- Initial Site Approval applications and Continued Approval reports will be created and submitted online.
- Data sharing agreements will be executed as requested.
Let us know what else you are wondering...

I had an interesting discussion recently about the definition of "average group size." In CenteringCounts, the average number of women in each cohort is calculated to give you average group size - not the average attendance at each session. A group that has 12 women enrolled who have attended 2+ sessions would have an average group size of 12, even though attendance is rarely 100% and the average group size at each session may vary.

How many sessions does a patient have to come to in order to be entered into the data?

Hi Amanda, there is no minimum session requirement. You can enter outcomes for any patients listed in the group.

Amanda, that was an excellent question..."how many sessions does a participant need to attend to enter their data"? My question is, if they only come to one session, are they really considered a Centering patient? This could happen if they were late for care or if they didn't like Centering and dropped out. The positive effect of Centering may not have happened in the one session, consequently their birth outcomes may not be as positive either.
I was thinking that to be entered into a sites' data, that the patient must attend at least a mandatory number of sessions...say 3 or maybe even 5 sessions?
John & Tanya can you comment??
Thanks, Genie

We are leaving this decision up to each site right now. We will be able to run outcomes based on how many sessions a patient attended so we will see if there is a protective effect from more Centering. Some sites use three, some use five, some six - we didn't want to dictate what each sites defines as a Centering patient. Thanks for asking, this comes up very often!

I am interested in Centering because: I feel it is the best way to get pregnancy care! Especially seeing how teens are with the model!

When submitting my Centering Counts I was always under the impression that I had to submit data for the patient that only attended 1 session, so that is what I have been doing for the last few years.
For my purposes, I want the hospital to see how Centering is helping our outcomes, so I break it down for them -
Here are my 3 breakdowns:
1. Total number of Centering patients enrolled and attended at least one session 2. Centering patients that attended 5 or more sessions 3. Centering patients that attended 4 or fewer
I feel that to be fair a patient needs to have come to the majority of visits to actually show different outcomes
4 or less, again in my opinion, gives them either 1. more traditional visits or 2. lack of prenatal care - which really doesn't show the effect of Centering and has actually WAY different outcomes when broken down
question - if everyone is submitting different data (counting that person that only shows to 1 session or not counting them) how are the numbers tallied together?

Yes, the online version integrates the group scheduling tool with outcomes tracking. So you will be able to monitor the effect of dosing. Some patients will attend 1 group, others will attend 10, most will fall somewhere in the 6-8 range. You can decide if you want to enter outcomes data for all patients or just some. I believe only patients with outcomes data are included in the outcomes reports, while all patients enrolled in Centering groups are included in the group level reports.

We are asking ourselves the same question . As with all wonderful things, sometimes they take a bit longer to gestate. We're pretty confident right now that this will happen in January.
