Just wondering if anyone has tried starting groups in Arabic? We have a growing population, and I'm looking into this option for our site. Please share your successes, obstacles, and any insight you may have.
Thanks, Mary

Worcester Family Health Center in MA is doing English, Spanish and Vietnamese groups and last I heard, had plans to start start Arabic and Portuguese groups.
The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati uses interpreters for Arabic-speaking women in group.
There must be others outside of the states I'm most familiar with, I hope some others chime in! Mary if you would like contact info for either of these sites I can connect you via email.

Hi Mary Fitz, Long time no see. I am happy to know you are still doing Centering. Would love to visit next time I do my east coast run! Arabic Groups - I have never seen one, but did a training with an Arabic midwife who was born here and spoke English. She was doing groups with 6 women, all of whom spoke different dialects. She asked each one to bring a translator and they all spoke then translated. It still seems to be a challenge as I reflect on it and I think that it does not meet the new requirements for "certified medical translators." But she loved it and found that the women became friends. If we were doing this it might not matter what the languages spoken are. Another site encouraged their Arabic moms to come by working in a learn to speak English component and theis encouraged the men to come and help. Hope this helps. Margie
